COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Bio

Joy graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in History and African and Afro-American Studies in 1996. She spent the early part of her career as a graphic designer in New York City. Later, moving back to Durham in 2001, she changed course and turned toward a career working for and with the Durham community. She received a Master’s of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University in 2008 with a focus in Community and Economic Development while serving as the Center Director of WD Hill Recreation Center on Fayetteville Street in Durham. She later became the Downtown Durham Development Coordinator for the Office of Economic and Workforce Development from 2006‐2013. Since leaving the City of Durham, she created Iveywood Consulting, a community economic development firm that focuses on community-level economic development projects that further the interests of the Durham community.
