Resource Efficiency + Circular Economy

Bio

Roberto Valle Kinloch is a sustainability professional who works with local government, nonprofits, and the private sector to deliver resource efficiency solutions through an equity lens. Roberto embraces a systems perspective to addressing the everyday challenges and structural inequities facing organizations and society at large. Over the past 10 years, Roberto has spearheaded the implementation of a large-scale clean energy program in his home country of Nicaragua, led research and development efforts on sustainable facility management practices in the U.K. and Norway, and developed a plastic-neutral strategy for Burt’s Bees in Durham, N.C. Roberto serves as the Solid Waste representative for the City of Durham’s Environmental Affairs Board and collaborates with local nonprofits and community leaders on community organizing and circular economy issues. This includes leading efforts to maximize the value of “waste” material in the construction sector and supporting composting initiatives in public schools. Roberto holds an M.Sc. in Renewable Energy from the University of Reading in the U.K. and a Ph.D. in Energy Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Norway. In 2015, Roberto was awarded “European Facilities Management Researcher of the Year” (2015) by EuroFM, one of the largest FM industry associations in Europe.
